Spinal Cord Injury

Case Summary

A 23 old woman suffered a fracture of the spine causing a complete paralysis after jumping into a swimming pool. The client was immediately transported by an ambulance to a hospital in the capital city, where she had a surgery at the department of neurosurgery.

The surgery had stabilized her health condition, but it was still necessary to arrange transport for the patient back to CR for further treatment and physiotherapy. The only option – in regard to the patient’s state – was an air ambulance. The assistance service organised the transport by air ambulance to the Czech Republic as well as the subsequent hospitalization.

Scope of assistance service work

Due to the serious condition of the patient 4 payment guarantees were sent covering costs incurred by the patient’s transport. The patient was transported several times – firstly to the capital city to undergo the surgery, then by an ambulance to the airport, and by air ambulance to the Czech Republic, and from the airport again by an ambulance to a hospital in CR.

Heart Attack

Case Summary

The last but one day, before a return from a business trip to Egypt, the insured suffered a massive heart attack. He had to undergo a triple bypass surgery immediately. He had to spend several days at ICU before he could be transferred to a normal care unit. Since he was still not suitable for transport back to CR, we arranged a visit of his closest relative, his son. The son could stay with his father at the hospital for the entire duration of the 14-day-long-hospitalization. The insurance company organised and paid for his accommodation, food and flight tickets. After 14 days it was already possible to proceed with repatriation back to CR by an air ambulance.

Scope of assistance service work

It was necessary to send very quickly a payment guarantee for the treatment and the surgery, and for the transport, as well as for the caretaker. Another payment guarantee was sent to cover the air ambulance repatriation back home. The wife, who was with him on the business trip, stayed for the entire duration of the 10-days-long-hopsitalization. We transported them both back to the country at the end.

The client ceased communicating and lost his ability to take care of himself. He had to be hospitalized at a psychiatric clinic. For the entire duration of the hospitalization his father was available to him and stayed with him in the USA. After stabilisation of the patient’s mental condition we could proceed with a careful repatriation back to the country under a supervision of a summoned Czech doctor.

After 3 weeks the patient could be repatriated under a supervision of a summoned Czech doctor back to the country.
